Quick Tips

As you review the reference lists of the articles you find, note the authors and the articles or books that are cited in multiple places. Authors and works that are repeatedly cited can indicate the prominence of the author and their contribution to the topic and should be included in your work.

 

Help with Annotated Bibliographies

Literature Mapping

What is Literature Mapping?

Literature mapping is a way of discovering scholarly articles by exploring connections between publications.

Scholarly articles are exploring the same topic are often linked by citations, authors, funders, keywords, and other metadata. These connections can be explored manually in a database like the OneSearch discovery platform in the Learning Commons, or through AI tools like  Connected PapersLitMaps, and Open Knowledge Maps

Reading Religion

Reading Religion (RR) is an open book review website published by the American Academy of Religion (AAR). 

Now only available to members of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL).

Peer reviewed coverage of reviews of contemporary developments and publishing in religion and theology.


Finding book reviews in the Learning Commons

  1. Enter your book title in the search box using the "Everything" option in the drop-down menu.

OR

Using Advanced Search, you can alternatively search by author name OR book title AND author name

  1. On the left-hand side of the page, scroll to the Resource Type limiter. 
  2. Select "Reviews"
  3. Search results will yield book reviews available in our databases for any given title.

 

Chasing Citations in OneSearch

The OneSearch platform in the Learning Commons allows you to chase citations for journal articles. 

Article records in OneSearch can offer multiple tools to expand your search.

1. Related Reading

Some articles in OneSearch will feature a Related Reading column on the right-hand side. Here you will find recommendations for similar articles available in One Search.

2. Citation Chasing

Scroll to the bottom of the article record. Some records will have a section marked Citations. Here you will one or two options:

  1. Citing this:  clicking on this option will lead you to a listing of articles that cite this particular article.
  2. Cited in this: clicking on this option will lead you to a list of articles that were cited in the article.

Keep in mind that citation chasing in OneSearch will be limited to sources that the Learning Commons currently owns or subscribes to. There may be other citations in the article not available in the Learning Commons. If this is the case, you can submit an Interlibrary Loan request, and Learning Commons staff will obtain the article or book on your behalf.

 

Litmaps creates interactive literature maps: collections of articles that make up your different research topics. Create maps for your research by searching the Litmaps literature database; linking your reference manager; or through automatic generation from seed articles.
