The Department of Research and Survey Papers was a division of a predecessor organization of the Community Renewal Society that provided statistical and sociological analyses of individual churches and communities. The program was initially headed by Samuel C. Kincheloe, CTS professor of the sociology of religion, and many of the surveys were completed by CTS students.
CTS, in partnership with the Chicago History Museum, presented an online exhibition featuring the under-told story of Rev. Jesse Jackson and other civil rights activists working in the Chicago Breadbasket Movement, documenting the birth of this movement in Chicago and highlighting the importance of CTS as an incubator in that movement. Narrators featured include: Rev. David Wallace, Rev. Janette C. Wilson, Rev. Martin Deppe, Dr. Hermene Hartman, Mrs. Betty Massoni (wife to late activist Rev. Gary Massoni), and Rev. Jesse Jackson. This virtual exhibit is part of CHM’s permanent collection and will be continuously available to the public.
