Accessibility Resources

Bookshare

The Learning Commons is a member of Bookshare, a searchable online library for readers with print and visual disabilities. Bookshare provides access to over one million digital books, textbooks, teacher-recommended reading, periodicals with multiple assistive technology tools. Readers can customize their reading experience with ebooks in audio, audio + highlighted text, braille, large font, dyslexic font, and other formats.  It is free for all U.S. students with qualifying disabilities.

To access Bookshare, please reach out to the Learning Commons so that an individual account can be created for you. Please note that access to each title is mediated, which means that you will need to request for access to each book you are interested in.

Book Scanning

The Learning Commons can scan an entire book for students with qualified disabilities provided that either the Learning Commons or the student have purchased a copy of the book.

See the National Library Service for the Visual and Print Disabled discussion on how Marrakesh Treaty to Facilitate Access to Published Works for Persons Who Are Blind, Visually Impaired or Otherwise Print Disabled, or “Marrakesh Treaty,” provides for the exchange of accessible-format books by organizations that serve people who are blind, visually impaired, and print disabled.
